Setting off for the first time in 2020 with enough cabins for around 3,000 passengers, this is the second in the new Edge class of ships for Celebrity. Like sibling Celebrity Edge, this ship has the famous Magic Carpet bar that rises up and down the side of the ship like an elevator—plus a rooftop garden and grill. There are a few subtle differences though, which include the first Montblanc luxury store at sea, unique art and sculpture pieces around the ship, and a slightly redesigned Solarium area.

Onboard Activities
AquaClass cabins, which are not part of The Retreat, still offer an upgraded experience thanks to a private restaurant and free access to the spa and thermal suite. The spa and wellness center gets a bit of a reboot over the Celebrity Edge offerings as well, with new programming, including spa-centric dining options that differ according to the cruise itinerary you happen to sail. Choose from more than 120 different treatments, enjoy a treatment with views of the ocean and then stop by the spa’s Persian Garden and thermal suite for further relaxation opportunities.

Land Vacations
A unique feature of the Celebrity Apex ship is its Magic Carpet - a glass structure (glass-roofed, cantilevered platform) the size of a tennis court, able to traverse 14 stories, like a large elevator. The gorgeous Greek islands were a highlight of the sailing with fairly priced walking tours and cooking lessons available as excursions. The famous sail-in to Montenegro was enthralling as the ship weaved through the mountain-lined landscape, and Dubrovnik, Croatia is always a personal favorite. The ship's crew hail from all around the world and speak multiple languages. The Retreat's staff were quick to remember my name and personal preferences. Overall, everyone working on board was very friendly and diligent at tidying the ship.

The space features lots of plants, shady spots, sculptures and space for activities, from outdoor yoga to games, as well as dining on occasion. This ship’s staterooms are far more luxurious, and give the feel of a luxury hotel, rather than a cruise ship, with plush bedding, neutral color palettes with pops of color, lots of storage space, plenty of room and loads of natural light. When it comes to staterooms aboard Celebrity Apex, don’t expect traditional dark and dingy cruise ship staterooms that you might be more used to on older ships from well-established cruise lines. Then, there’s the Edge-class Magic Carpet, which debuted on Celebrity Edge first. The deck is cantilevered off the side of the ship and moves up and down, to the various decks.

This gives passengers more internal square footage while offering a more customizable balcony experience. The adults-only Solarium features a pool and two hot tubs; there’s the large main pool on Deck 14; a private pool for suite guests-only is hidden in The Retreat, which also offers three hot tubs. The Retreat, which includes an open-air sundeck, a private lounge with concierge service and snacks and a private restaurant with an exclusive menu, is being rolled out across Celebrity’s entire fleet, as part of The Celebrity Revolution initiative.
A busy day with four cruisevessels
The ship's chic interior and exterior design are the handiwork of celeb names like Nate Berkus and design maven Kelly Hoppen. Passengers in AquaClass staterooms or Suites eat at Blu Restaurant, offering lighter "spa-inspired" cuisine. The Luminae Restaurant is named "Luminae at The Retreat" and (along with Blu) is part of the private, Suite Class passengers exclusive complex "The Retreat". Suite passengers have also the option to eat in the Main Dining Rooms (Normandie Restaurant, Tuscan Restaurant, Cosmopolitan Restaurant, Cyprus Restaurant).
Celebrity Apex ship is part of the current revolution for Celebrity, which for years has pushed the bar when it comes to design and delight. For the second of its Edge-class ships, the cruise line partnered with some big-name designers -- including Kelly Hoppen and Jouin Manku -- to bring an airy, modern feel to every space onboard, inside and out. And while the 2,910-passenger ship is fancy, it's not stuffy – there's a relaxed vibe throughout.
However, on March 6th was announced that the naming ceremony is postponed for 2020-Q4 (after Celebrity Apex' repositioning to the Caribbean). Eventually, the naming was held in the USA (onboard at homeport Port Everglades/Fort Lauderdale Florida) on November 3, 2021. From the USA, Celebrity Apex cruises to ports in the Western Caribbean (Mexico, Key West FL, Grand Cayman) and Eastern Caribbean (Puerto Rico, St Thomas USVI, St Kitts). Of all the 1467 staterooms, 918 are Edge Staterooms (with Infinite Verandas) and 176 are suites.
The online event was held on March 27th and attended by Dimitris Kafetzis (cruise ship's Captain), Lisa Lutoff Perlo (Celebrity Cruises' CEO) and Laurent Castaing (shipbuilder's General Manager). Celebrity Apex Inaugural Cruise was re-scheduled for May 20th (initially planned for April 1st). Due to the Coronavirus crisis, Celebrity rescheduled Apex ship's inaugural cruise (2020) several times - April 1st, May 20, June 13, September 16, October 10, November 5, and December 5th. The Maiden Voyage was then rescheduled for January 2, 2021 (7-day Western Caribbean/"Mexico, Key West and Grand Cayman Cruise" out of Fort Lauderdale). Ship's Lawn Deck is equipped with real grass and the vessel has more deck chairs than others, offering a calm atmosphere under the sun.
Located at either end of the ship, the Sunset Veranda and Deluxe Ocean View with Veranda guarantee the best view of breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. The most transformational aspect of our stateroom design is the introduction of the Edge Stateroom with Infinite Veranda, where with the touch of a button, your entire living space becomes the veranda, letting you walk right out to the water's edge. These staterooms feature the latest in design and technology, and they're 23% larger than our award-winning Solstice Class veranda staterooms. It is a well designed ship and never seemed really crowded (except at the pool). The type of veranda on this ship is like an enclosed sunroom with a full panel of glass that opens half way. The bathroom was also spacious and there were plenty of storage areas in the stateroom.
One of our signature favorites, we’ve added more live action stations, including an Asian stir fry station with flavors inspired by the spice route and a bakery serving up fresh selection from the oven. On show nights, get there early or risk being seated in an area with limited stage viewing. The bartenders’ performance is enhanced by dramatic lighting and cool artwork. The unique space has a striking lighting feature - The Chandelier, an art installation rising over Martini Bar to the ceiling 3 decks above. It is composed of 5 levels and a total of 765 blades illuminated via dynamic LED strips changing their colors from day to night, The Chandelier weighs 7 tons.
Kids can participate in organized activities depending upon their age, although some families choose to spend time together playing basketball, table tennis, splashing in the pool, or competing over video games. There are no waterparks or waterslides on Apex, which helps to keep the atmosphere calm and scream-free. You won’t find the ship to be jam-packed with young children although that can vary by the itinerary. With a rounded stage and wrap-around seats, the theater aboard Celebrity Apex is a game changer. For guests staying in the Retreat cabins, there is a reserved section on the mezzanine—but there are really no bad seats either way.
